Hepatitis C Patient
Support Groups can provide a valuable supplement to health care professionals
who are attempting to deal with the many impacts of this disease upon patients
and their families. Limitations on time and resources in the medical system can
often restrict the amount of time that health care professionals can spend with
each individual patient. Support groups can extend and support the education of
patients and their families, providing facts about the many aspects of this
illness, and at the same time giving valuable emotional and psychological
support. This service can greatly improve the ability of patients to understand
and manage their chronic illness, and do so at very low cost.
The Hepatitis Education Project has developed a new Support Group Program, based
on extensive research and evaluation of support group needs. The program is
designed to provide training, consultation and materials for affiliated support
group leaders, to improve recruitment and retention of both leaders and members
of support groups. For more details about this program,

The program is in its earliest stages, with six support groups in Western
Washington affiliated at present. We expect to expand that number rapidly over
the next year or so, as new groups are formed and existing groups join us. The
resources that we provide for support group leaders are proving very popular,
and we expect to recruit many more groups over the coming year.
All of our affiliated support group leaders have completed our training program,
and our materials are reviewed and evaluated by our staff and directors,

The materials are available for your review: Here
We encourage you to inform your hepatitis C patients about this new resource and
refer them to our webpage for more information. We would welcome and comments or
inquiries about our program.
